From Our President: 2012
Reunion up-date George and I now have everything in place
for this years event. Unfortunately, we also had to make
an adjustment to one of the tours. The tour of the Liberty
Ship Brown had to be cancelled because they are making
preparations for getting underway and will be shifting
berths that day. However, they are typically open to the
public on Wednesdays, so for those of you that are coming in
early, the ship will be available to visit then.
In place of the
SS BROWN,
we have gone with touring ships located at the Inner
Harbor. As part of the package, you will have a choice of
touring 1 of 4 ships located there; the USS Constellation,
Chesapeake Lightship, USS Torsk or the USCG Cutter Taney.
These are all located in the same vicinity as the shopping
and restaurants on the 1st
schedule. We will be in that area for about 2 1/2 hours.
Plenty of time to visit a ship, eat and for the ladies to
shop.
Web
Site:
I finally got the web site
up-dated with the 2011 Reunion pictures, about 247 of them.
I also did a little tweaking on the site its self. You
know go directly into the Welcome page. If you are going
to the site from your favorites link, you might get an
error message the says the page is no longer available.
Click on the page refresh icon on your browser and that
should fix the issue.

A word from the Vice-President:
Not to
much to write about seeing how the last newsletter still has
wet ink on it! We have been having a little trouble with
some of you getting their newsletter, not sure why but
anyway make sure you let us know if something changes or you
move. Those forwarding address cards only last so long and
then you may be missing your newsletter.
Along that same line if your dues arent up to date you
will have to read it on-line and that leads to next problem
if you dont have a computer. I thought Id throw together a
few membership numbers for you to look at: 2009- 164 pd
members, 2010-177 pd members, 2011-135 pd members, and so
far for 2012-112 pd members.
Cant give you anything on the 2013 cruise yet, after I
Retire the first of August I can meet with the travel agent
and have everything ready for Baltimore. Until then enjoy
the warm weather and see you in September.

The Chaplains Corner:
Good Day to all of you. Well I hope you are planning
to be in Baltimore in September. Im sure we will have
another great reunion this year.
As I set here on this Saturday morning writing this article
my mind went back to June 1974 when I left the Sitkin
heading for Ohio to pick up Patsy and travel to Norfolk Va.
We were heading out to our new home aboard the USS Vulcan
AR-5. I wasnt sure what to expect when we arrived. It was
sure different. I didnt know anyone and there was so much
Navy there in Norfolk. I found after several weeks that I
began to miss my old home and shipmates aboard the Sitkin. I
thought when I left I was ready for new adventures. I never
really settled in aboard her. Even today when I think back I
seldom think about the Vulcan or the crew. My heart is still
on that old rust bucket and the friendships I made aboard
her.
I am so glad for this association that was formed years ago.
It has brought back so many good memories that I like
thinking about.
Lets keep those families in our prayers that have lost a
loved one who sailed aboard the Great Sitkin. May the Lord
Bless and Keep You.
Spouse Honor Roll: Ann Marie Berg, spouse
of shipmate Ronald Berg.

Secretarys Report:
It is starting to be a Hot Summer here in Pennsylvania.
Mowing the lawn is a weekly task and my garden is growing
fast. Hope you all are enjoying the spring and early summer
after a very mild winter. Looking forward to Balltimore? Ron
and George have a great reunion planned. Two of my family
members were just in Baltimore last week to hear the
Baltimore Symphony and had a wonderful time. Baltimore is
one of the those cities that has a lot to offer. I have been
to the water front many times and always something new to
enjoy. Other than this, just a reminder to keep us informed
of any address or email changes you have please let us
know. Last newsletter I only had two returned. So thats a
good sign everyone is doing that. See you in Baltimore!
