Tampa Area Guided Tours
Thursday
morning, we boarded a bus for a guided tour of
the Ybor City Museum and surroundings. At one
time, Ybor City was called the cigar capital of
the world. A tour of the American Victory Museum
Ship followed. The military cargo ship completed
in 1945, served many roles in its history. The
ship helped protect American merchant vessels
and delivered supplies to help rebuild Europe.
Chaplain Rucker held the memorial service
onboard the top deck. George Kaiser played taps
on his trumpet.
After lunch
at Hyde Park Village, we boarded the bus again
for a guided tour of the H.B. Plant Museum, now
housed in the former 1891 Tampa Bay Hotel. The
museum, a National Historic Landmark, displays
the Moorish Revival-style buildings original
collection of decorative arts and furnishings.
