Thursday, September 12th,
Quantico Marine Corps Base and the National
Museum of the Marine Corps
Quantico
is one of the nations largest Marine Corps
installations and the site of the Marine
Corps Combat Development Command. Our first
visit was to the
ISMT (Indoor
Simulated Marksmanship Trainer) which is
used for remedial, virtual, instruction in
basic and advanced marksmanship,
shoot/no-shoot judgment, combat
marksmanship, and weapon employment tactics.
This program is required to continue to
allow simulated training in myriad scenarios
both at Quantico during pre-deployment
training and while on deployment.
The
VCCT (Virtual Combat Convoy
Trainer) makes
it possible
for Marines to conduct pre-deployment
training in a controlled virtual environment
where everything from the vehicles they will
operate while on deployment to the weapons
they will fire is perfectly replicated. The
basic VCCT unit consists of a modular
trailer containing four octagonal rooms. A
Humvee replica sits inside each room, and a
computer-generated scene is projected onto
the walls around the Marines inside the
Humvee for a 360-degree view.
We had some
great shooters among our group! The ladies
gave the Sitkin shipmates a real run for
their money!
